"King and I" Live at the Star Theatre February 5, 2010

Some of the most beautiful music ever written for the American Musical Theatre was composed by Rodgers and Hammerstein for "The King and I." The Star Theatre Company has assembled an outstanding cast that brings us an excellent performance of this great story of Anna and the King of Siam. Playing the part of the King is Dr. T.C. Ghosh of Del Mar. The role of Anna is played beautifully by Sandra Kopitzke of Fallbrook. The Cast of 40 local actors and singers complete this outstanding cast. This production is directed by David Schulz, Artistic Director of teh Star Theatre, working with his mother Ann Schulz as musical director. Amanda Ghosh choreographs.
This beloved Rodgers & Hammerstein musical tells the story of a young English widow named Anna, who travels with her young son to Siam to work as the governess for the many children and wives of the King. Without relaxing their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect and even love one another. Music is by Richard Rodgers, with book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The musical is based on Anna and The King of Siam a novel by Margaret Landon. The musical boasts familiar songs such as Whistle a Happy Tune, Getting to Know You, Something Wonderful and Shall We Dance? It also contains the ballet, Small House of Uncle Thomas, based upon Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin.
