Join a growing number of backyard farmers enjoying the many benefits of raising their own chickens. Chickens are easy to raise, provide eggs and meat, add nutrients to your compost pile, work your garden soil, and help control insect pests - plus, they are fascinating! We'll cover choosing breeds of chickens, their housing and feeding needs, egg production and more. We'll also work with the chickens themselves and cover handling, feeding, checking for egg laying , and any other chicken questions that come up. - - Open to everyone age 16 and older. - - Drumlin Farm is committed to the concept of eating locally and eating well. We've launched an effort to build a diverse community of 'locavores' who share the belief that supporting local farming is best for our economy, our health, and our environment. These programs will encourage discussions of what it means to 'eat local', offer opportunities to share our local bounty, and have a good time while becoming more - informed. Registration is required. Call 781-259-2200 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=624-DFP11SP1 for more information.
