Locals Share Age Old Traditions as Lancaster County Tours Explore the Amish Countryside

As the Amish explore new ways of establishing a presence in today’s world both in service and economic stamina, Lancaster County Tours search for age old traditions that have been passed down over the generations. With bakers, canners, carpenters and coach makers, the narrative of how the locals make a living in today’s economy is easily read.

On March 20th 2010, Lancaster County Tours invite you to explore with them the Pennsylvania Dutch Landscape. Traversing through back country roads amidst the rolling hills discover an area which time has forgotten. Rolling hills, never ending farmland and the lure of the local culture, we bring you one step closer to this unique lifestyle.

The day begins with a tour of a local bakery. These bakers talk of the local sweets and how they are made. With time forgotten recipes, these bakers share with you the secrets of the Whoppie Pie. Then off to an Amish homestead that will dig a little deeper into the culinary side of Lancaster. With demonstrations on how to make jams relishes and other local treats, these ladies have just begun. A wonderful lunch awaits you as you learn of the Amish ways in the kitchen. Save time here for observing the carpenters and for shopping; you will enjoy both. Later we’ll explore how buggies are made here in Lancaster as we depart for one of the local Coach Shops. Here you will observe the process of how to produce a buggy.

Your culinary exploration is not over; we then head to dinner to one of the local Pennsylvania Dutch Restaurants where we will enjoy dinner where the locals dine. The tour is all inclusive and will include all stops, demos, meals and transportation. Cost per person is at $150.00. This tour is limited and reservations will need to be made. Please call either Jan or Carl to find out more. Call either 888-999-4479 or 888-824-3763 for more information.
