For the month of March, NAISA's installation space will be filled with everyday objects especially selected for the interesting sounds they make when struck or played, offering you a chance to play with sound and manipulate it live. NAISA's Sound Bash Concert series includes performances on this evolving instrument / sound installation. Join us for one of three special Saturday evening concerts with performances by artists Lee Pui Ming & NOiNO on March 31. Check www.naisa.ca for full performance information.
Lee Pui Ming’s passion and curiosity these days is the Body - listening to it, sourcing from it, learning about and from it, playing from it. Her investigations are grounded in the Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy training that she received from 2007 to 2009. Pui Ming’s sixth and latest recording, “she comes to shore”, which contains her concerto for improvised piano and orhcestra, was released on Innova Recordings in 2011. She is the recipient of The Freddie Stone Award (2000) for her work in improvisation, and The K. M. Hunter Artist Award (2006). leepuiming.ca
NOiNO is an experimental improvising trio of sonic explorers: James Bailey (Odradek, Six Heads, Build to Suit, Tidal Pool, EAR-CAM, and Garage Sale) on synthesizers, midi horn, toys & various found devices; Matthew Poulakakis (Salvagesound, Automatic Fats, Wassonic, Contrapture and Build to Suit) on percussion, sample manipulation, occasional keyboards & other instruments; and Jamie Todd (dreamSTATE, URM, SADU) on laptop based synthesizers and EFX manipulated in real time with various gaming and midi controllers.
