The City of Lenoir Veterans Memorial on the southeast quadrant of the Square will be dedicated on Memorial Day in 2010.
In an effort to recognize our veterans and to help in the construction and maintenance of the memorial, the City is selling commemorative quarry tiles that recognize a veteran and the branch of the military in which he or she served. Each tile has the name of one veteran, status, date served, and information about the particular area or war in which the veteran served. Each tile costs $125.00 This price covers the cost of the tile and a portion of the cost of the memorial.
Who Can Be Recognized?
Any veteran who has an honorable discharge from one of the five branches of service in the United States military(Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, or Coast Guard) and has served in any period from World War I until the present may be recognized with a tile.
As of January 2010, over 700 tiles have been purchased in honor of veterans.
Tiles sold after March 26, 2010, will be placed and dedicated on Veterans Day in November 2010. Tiles will be sold until the memorial is full.
Corporate or Individual Donations
Corporate or individual contributions to the cost of the memorial are also accepted in the amounts of $100 minimum. These donors will be recognized on a plaque that will be adjacent to the memorial.
