“Grape Expectations”: Pop the cork, bring the wine to your nose and take a deep breath. Tease your taste buds with the scent. Then take a sip. Swirl around the liquid. Chew it so it gets under and around your tongue. Explore the flavors. Challenge your senses at the First Lion’s Cup Wine & Arts Festival to be held May 2, 2009 at St. Martin of Tours’ Episcopal Church, 612 SE First, Pryor, Oklahoma from Noon to 5:00 p.m. The Wine & Arts Festival will feature local wineries, local food vendors, Jazz music, and local artisans, a feast for the senses with great sound, aroma, taste, and beautiful art!

Whether you are a wine connoisseur or just drink the occasional glass, this is a great way to spend the afternoon. Tickets are $10.00 at the door, and include a custom engraved wine glass. You may then sample varieties of local wine and non-alcoholic wines, converse, listen to the Jazz music and peruse the local artisans while strolling under the big tent. A pleasant afternoon for a small price!

The theme for this year’s festival is “Raise Your Glass for Glasses”. As many of you are aware, the Lions Club primarily sponsors eyeglasses for those in need and also accepts donations of used eyeglasses to be recycled to those who can use them. All proceeds from this event will go to vision care for those in need.

Several local merchants have already provided their sponsorship for the Lions Cup Wine & Art Festival and the Pryor Lions Club is still offering a sponsorship package for those interested, $20.00 to have your Logo on a flag runner at the Lions Cup Wine & Arts Festival; $20.00 to be a sponsor for the upcoming “Little Olympics” event, a long time Pryor tradition; or $30.00 to be a sponsor for both events. If you are interested in this sponsorship, please contact Marilynn or W.D. Bullard at 918-824-1727. Proceeds from the double sponsorships will be divided between vision care for those in need and local scholarships and other programs sponsored by your Pryor Lions Club.

Local artists are being encouraged to participate by displaying their arts and crafts during the Festival. They will have their creations on display and available for sale during the Festival.

.. ..

Local food vendors will be providing food for separate purchase, including Stovall’s Catering and Jim Hammett (Chef Eggbert’s Pryor). Stovall’s will be providing cheeses and crackers, plus plate offerings with an Italian flair. Jim Hammett of Eggbert’s Pryor, will be providing luscious desserts.

The Pryor Lions Club sponsored a Poster Contest and the winning artist, Linda Tucker, is featured on the posters for the event. The beautiful painting of Two American Eagles is titled “So that they may see with the eyes of an Eagle”. The winner and 12 other artists will be featured in the 2010 Lions Club calendar that will be available around November/December 2009.

And what are our future plans? We are already planning next year’s Lion’s Cup Wine & Arts Festival, to be held on May 1, 2010! Mark your calendars!
