Babylon Falling presents ‘Live Forever’ – New Works by David Young.
Preferring the simplicity of black pen on paper drawn out in a two dimensional form David Young utilizes the subtraction of color and rendering to focus entirely on the form at hand, allowing him the freedom to translate his images to most any media. Existing on the ashes of our current society, the world represented in ‘Live Forever’ provides a vision of American life torn apart by conflict, and existing in a state of confusion and fear with the physical world destroyed and social roles transformed.
Join us here at Babylon Falling for the opening reception on Thursday, January 15th 2009 from 6-9pm. There will be drinks and music as always. The event is wheelchair accessible. The exhibition will run through February 14th.
About David Young
A resident of San Francisco for just over 5 years, David gathers a variety of influence and reference for his work from a number of resources. These include a wide range of post-apocalyptic style films, punk music, street art, graphic novels, and war photography. These influences are thrown together in one form to represent a damaged and extremely hostile version of San Francisco and its place in America. The art displayed in ‘Live Forever’ is the start of a series of work and ideas that will continue to evolve into a number of forms and directions in the months and years to come. All of the work in this series is executed with Micron08 pens on both Strathmore Bristol and American Masters paper.
About Babylon Falling
Babylon Falling is a concept-driven independent bookstore with a focus on the spirit of Revolution. In addition to new books, we also carry similarly themed collectible toys, posters, artwork and DVDs, and our own in house clothing line featuring designs submitted by those artists who have exhibited here. The name of the store reflects the owner's Jamaican heritage, where the word Babylon is an all-purpose euphemism for both oppression and those who oppress. The phrase Babylon Falling then, is at once an affirmation and a demand.
Previous shows at Babylon Falling have included Hal Lawrence, Robert Bowen, David Choong Lee, John Felix Arnold III, Emory Douglas, Le Bijoutier, Roger Steffens & Peter Simon, David Ball, buZ blurr, C3, and most recently photographer Shawn Mortensen.
