The Commodore Hotel Linden is pleased to have the return of the Cliftones on Friday May 1st.
The Cliftones, Darrell & Sissy Pogue, moved from Beale Street to the back woods of nearby rural Tennessee about seven years ago. Musicians for nearly all of their lives, they started singing and playing local venues soon after they moved to Clifton. Their savvy blend of attention-grabbing instrumentals and thoughtful lyrics make them a favorite at such places as The Broken Spoke in Pickwick and the Horseshoe Bend Festival in Clifton. Darrell “cut his teeth” in the music business playing drums at about every club in Memphis for 25 years, including Beale Street, the outdoor festival Memphis in May, and The Peabody. During this period, he worked with Dan Phillips, a well-known Memphis songwriter. At the same time, Sissy was singing in several different bands. After moving to Clifton, Darrell started playing guitar and they became a duo in high demand. Listeners are drawn to their genuine, soulful folk-rock sound. They have performed nearly every night since! The Cliftones have recorded seven of Dan Phillips' songs at Bessie Blues Studio, owned by Jim Gaines, a multi-grammy winning producer. They continue to work on expanding their repertoire, including other Phillips songs for their upcoming cd. The Cliftones will perform Friday, May1st, at the Commodore Café on 114 Main Street in Linden, from 6-9pm.
