On September 14, 2006 at the Barnes & Noble on College Avenue in Fort Collins, author Bill Sonn (A Denver resident) will be reading from his book, Paradigms Lost: The Life and Deaths of the Printed Word, followed by a signing.
Sonn has received a number of rave reviews:
"Will please anyone who loves history. We take for granted the vast flow of information available via the printed word, but it was not always so" - Alan Caruba, Bookviews.com
"Must reading for anyone involved in printing, typesetting or graphic design... a
fascinating look at the printed word!" - DT&G Magazine
"What William Sonn does... is provide the rich back story leading to the present changes" - Reid Goldsborough, syndicated columnist, Central New York Business Journal.
There are more, at Amazon - "an instant classic," "very funny", B&N.com and
even Wal-Mart.com - "an excellent book, five stars all the way".
The gist of the book:
We like to think we live in an unprecedented new “information age,” but Paradigms Lost is a history of four previous information ages. We saw the first in the middle 1400s with the invention of the printing press, two more in the 1800s with a couple of obscure but important technological changes
and then, in the middle 20th century, a fourth with the development of the computer. Each time written information became easier and cheaper to create and get, moreover, it came into flood. Old political, economic, religious, military and intellectual institutions were swamped. Many tipped over.
And, of course, it seems it may be happening again.
