On April 22, 2010, the entire community is invited to the 40th Anniversary Conference of the first Earth Day at the University of Miami with speakers from the 1970 event as well as younger activists. The Conference theme is Mending Miami: Fixing the Environmental Destruction of South Florida.

Keynote speakers will be Joe Browder, a Washington consultant active in creating Biscayne National Park and Big Cypress Preserve, and Ross McCluney of the Florida Solar Energy Center, both returning after 40 years. Other speakers represent the Sierra Club, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, Lee’s Justice (Broward), Urban Environmental League of Greater Miami, Fertile Earth Foundation; Sails for Sustenance, Urban Paradise, and Friends of Virginia Key.

The Program is from 6 to 9 pm in the Lower Lounge of the University Center. It is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
