Twenty year old identical twin sisters, Maria and Sarah Fitzmaurice, founded The Fitzmaurice Band in late 2006. Maria's smokey alto and Sarah's pure, soaring soprano blend together beautifully in sibling harmony for a "bluegrass" sound that is uniquely their own. Joined by Brandon Snellings on mandolin, Mike Simms on guitar and banjo and Aaron Malone on fiddle the Fitzmaurice Band covers the entire spectrum of bluegrass, from the traditional high and lonesome sounds of Bill Monroe to contemporary acoustic music. They've wowed audiences throughout Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia with their tight, passionate vocals, virtuousic instrumental work, and high levels of energy on stage. With an emphasis on original music that the band classifies as "alternative bluegrass", their repertoire also covers not only the traditional sound, but also their own take on classic rock and country.Location: Music Room 308, Maryland Hall Arts Center.
