***SPECIAL EVENT***

Mon May 26: This year Miles Davis’ birthday falls on Memorial Day. In honor of the enduring legacy of Miles & his music, the San Diego jazz community & dizzy’s present a FREE afternoon of tribute performances.

2PM set: The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Vince Greco, is a 20 piece big band comprised of the most gifted & talented young musicians (ages 14 – 19) from across San Diego county.

4PM set: The ESP Quintet has been performing together since 1992, playing music inspired by the creative adventurous approach of Miles Davis - Mitch Manker trumpet, Bob Campbell saxophone, Lynn Willard keyboards, Dave Curtis bass, & Gary Nieves drums.
6PM set: A fearless proponent of jazz in San Diego, as well as a ferociously talented trumpeter, Gilbert Castellanos bridges the generations, spotlighting veteran players all-the-while nurturing young virtuosos. Today he performs with his Quartet plus special guests, homegrown jazz saxophonists Daniel Jackson & Gary LeFebvre.

We’ll be opening all the doors wide, piping the sounds to the patio & lawn along Martin Luther King Way; Brandt beef will be offering barbeque fare @ nominal prices; plus wine & cold beer (something you can’t have at the overcrowded beaches this year).
Parking will be easy downtown, & don’t forget, the trolley stops right in front of the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center. All ages are always welcome @ dizzy’s - so bring the whole family, spend the day with the San Diego jazz community, & fill your head with the art form that is uniquely American – all in honor of Miles! 2-8PM FREE
