Miyavi is a Japanese recording artist and entertainer who is active in the visual kei and mainstream rock scene in Japan. At the age of 17, he joined the band Due le Quartz under the name Miyabi. After the band ended in 2002, he decided to start his solo career and changed his name to Miyavi. He soon released his first album, Gagaku and signed with PS Company. In 2004, Miyavi signed with Universal Music Group, becoming a major label artist. His first release under Universal was Miyavizm in 2005. His 2007 EP, titled 7 Samurai Sessions – We’re Kavki Boiz, featured rearrangements of past songs, turntables, various drums and tap dancing. A headlining event for over 13,000 that Miyavi did in 2009 sold out within three minutes of going on sale. In January, 2010, he announced a new record deal with EMI.
