Boston, MA-Emerging choreographers Graci Meier and Maya Kite will present an eclectic afternoon of dance with Mosaics in Motion, an annual choreography concert hosted by The Boston Conservatory. The concert will take place Sunday, April 18th at 2PM at Midway Studios. Mosaics in Motion features four new dances choreographed by Graci Meier and Maya Ktie. Their works explore the beauty of the human body in motion and the depth of the human spirit. From the most complicated partnering to the simplest gesture, these two women have endeavored to bring innovation to the concert dance stage.
Graci Meier will be presenting a trio for two women and a man that tells the story of a love triangle as it is described through the words of This American Life from NPR. The dance works with the text to interweave the story’s words and motion into one. Meier will also be presenting Effiingere, a contemporary ballet for three couples that explores the beauty of motion. Set to the music of Andrew Bird, the choreography demonstrates the joy of movement and is truly a feast for the eyes.
Maya Kite is presenting Of Women and __Street. Both works seek to bring forth the spirit of the individual. Of Women is a suite of five female solos. Danced to recognizable pieces of music arranged for guitar, cello, and percussion by Boston Conservatory’s Jennifer Hruska, these solos explore the depth of emotion and love of life. From the lyrical and desolate to the rhythmic and joyous, this piece presents the unique quality of each individual as well as the similarities that unite them.
_Street is a sketch of a city block filled with people walking to places, from places. It is a fast-paced work with many sections following the lives of those who pass on the sidewalks everyday and never meet. The live music played and composed by Berklee College of Music’s Chad Gray unites the many emotions and styles of movement portrayed as well as giving the work the underlying pulse of the urban environment in which it takes place.
