National Day of Puppetry April 30, 2011

Puppetry fans of all ages are invited to join the fun as The Detroit Puppeteers Guild and PuppetART celebrate the National Day of Puppetry at the Detroit PuppetART Theater. Registrants will enjoy PuppetART's puppetry museum, the puppetry store, and puppets of every kind animated by members of the Detroit Puppeteers Guild. PuppetART will present the 'Crane Maiden,' a traditional Japanese puppet tale. Two performance-workshops of shadow puppets and hand expressions will precede the 'Crane Maiden' presentation. Morning and afternoon hands-on workshops will also be offered for children and adults. Adults will learn hand mannerisms, how to get started with their own puppet shows, and paper sculpture. Children can make-and-take a sock puppet, a snake puppet, and much more.
