Celebrate the powerful images of hope, peace, and perseverance created by the children enrolled in the Goodlands® Community Arts Program. The Goodlands® is a program of Centro Nueva Creación, a small grassroots community center in North Philadelphia. Neighborhood Hearts and Hands is the 5th annual summer exhibit to be hosted by NEXUS/Foundation for Today’s Art. Please come and honor not only the poignant images created by the students of Centro Nueva Creación, but also this ongoing neighborhood partnership!
The Goodlands® Community Arts Program is part of the community strategy by Centro Nueva Creación to counter the negative image of the West Kensington and Fairhill neighborhoods known as “The Badlands.” Since the program’s inception in 2000, the photographs by these young artists have been exhibited in countless locations, including galleries, universities, community art festivals, and other public venues.
Come and experience one of our city’s greatest strengths – the youth and their vision for the future. The artists, ages 5-13, will be present from 6pm to 8pm to discuss their work with those in attendance. Join us to celebrate the work and the mission of the Goodlands® with those who make it all possible!
