Consuming films has been more difficult for online than physical mediums. With the digital rights management in place, the ability to buy a movie once to be viewed on multiple devices has been limited. However, the situation is about to change with the advent of UltraVioletTM. Currently in testing and set to launch in 2011, this new coalition promises new features to consumers in the form of “buy once play anywhere” and new opportunities for entrepreneurs.

This event will focus on two aspects: an UltraViolet ecosystem overview and entrepreneurial area. Panelists from some key members of the 60 participating entertainment and technology companies will provide perspectives of platform that will do for digital what the DVD did for physical media. In addition, the will discuss the enabling features of UltraViolet that will allow startups to create both consumer services, such as content discovery, recommendations and user interfaces, and business services such as encoding content and metadata.
