Craig Smith is a lawyer, reporter and blogger, based in Santa Barbara. His fact-based observations on the SB News-Press firings and legal proceedings on http://craigsmithsblog.com became very popular, especially because that local newspaper rarely reported on itself. Craig's postings became a significant timeline of events for the documentary film Citizen McCaw, which was screened in full movie-theatres several times locally. Craig will discuss 'The Old Media Is Dying - Long Live New Media!'

In addition to 'covering Santa Barbara law and media like a wet blanket' in his blog, Craig Smith has worked as:

Deputy District Attorney, County of Santa Barbara, 1976-1983
Judicial Research Attorney, Santa Barbara Superior Court, 1983-1992
Superior Court Commissioner (Juvenile Court Judge) in Santa Barbara, 1992-1996
In private practice of Law at Hatch & Parent, 1996-1999
Deputy County Counsel, Santa Barbara County, 1999-2003.

He is a teacher:
- Adjunct Professor of Law, Santa Barbara/Ventura Colleges of Law, 1984–present
- Program Director of Paralegal Studies at UCSB Extension, 2004–present
- Moderator of a five-person panel discussion on the future of media, held in the SB Public Library and screened several times recently on local access TV channel 21.
