In addition to tournaments, local horse shoe clubs like the Woodward County Horseshoe Pitchers Association also offer league play. The Woodward County club meets for league play every Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. at Crystal Beach Park.
Those wishing to learn more about horseshoes can stop by on a Thursday evening and see what it’s all about or visit the state tournament on Sept. 5.
Frederick said the Woodward County club is “always looking for new members.” The club currently has a roster of 18 pitchers, but at one time back when the club first got started in the 1980s there were about 55 participants, he said.
The sport has a lot of benefits, Frederick said, noting that it is not only an inexpensive activity, but it also offers “good exercise and a chance to be out with people and socialize.”
