The Black Hills State University Music Department will present a comic opera, The Telephone, Jan. 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Clare and Josef Meier Recital Hall.

The Telephone (or L'amour a Trois) by Gian Carlo Menotti, is a one-act English opera that tells the story of Ben, who tries in vain to propose to Lucy, a telephone addict. After several attempts to pop the question and even more telephone interruptions, Ben leaves without having proposed. Finally, he succeeds in getting her undivided attention. Can you guess how?

The opera will feature Christopher Braddy, senior vocal music major from Rapid City, and Tessa Braddy, recent speech communications graduate from Spearfish, along with Lori Miller, adjunct music instructor. The performance is under the direction of Tessa and Dr. Nancy Roberts, assistant professor of music.

This event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome. For information contact Roberts at 642-6230 or Nancy.Roberts@BHSU.edu.
