The Central Atlanta Overeaters Anonymous Intergroup is sponsoring a convention on June 7th, 2008. The theme is Happy, Joyous and Free. The venue for the convention is the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (1911 Cliff Valley Way, NE, Atlanta, GA 30329). Registration and check-in will begin at 8 a.m. and the conference activities will be from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The registration fee is $20 on or before May 6, and $30 anytime after that. Anyone is welcome to come; it is a great opportunity for OA members to experience recovery as well as for newcomers to learn about OA.

There will be four speaker sessions, a lunchtime speaker, and a panel discussion. The speakers will be OA veterans who will share their stories of recovery from compulsive overeating, and how they are practicing the 12-step program in their lives. In every session there will be time for attendees to participate by sharing their own experience, strength, and hope. There will be a panel discussion on the promises of the Big Book, and a Q & A with the audience.

In addition to the speakers, there will be other activities throughout the day, including a talent show, drawings for prizes, second-hand clothing and book sale, and an OA literature sale. The Talent Show will feature performances from members showcasing their gifts in music, poetry, comedy, and other creative outlets. The Drawing Extravaganza gives people the chance to win great prizes donated by OA members. The Oooh Aaah Boutique will feature a fine selection of second-hand clothing. The proceeds for both sales will benefit OA. For those who are interested in more in-depth information about OA, there will also be OA related literature for sale—books, workbooks and pamphlets.
