It is Xanadu*'s great pleasure to announce the opening
of ?A Pyrrhic Loss,? a collection of mixed media
paintings by Kyle Nouse, in our main space; and ?78
Read Avenue,? a selection of photographs by Christiana
Caro, in our window display. We kick off the last leg
of our summer exhibition season with the opening on
Thursday, August 4, 2005 at 7pm, featuring a
performance by Jesse Dee, singer-songwriter
extraordinaire.

KYLE NOUSE records life?s chaotic speed, energy, and
emotion. He describes his work as ?a paper trail?,
one that has collapsed into a single space??receipts,
notes, signs, letters, glass, photos, bags, anything
that somehow attaches itself.? The results speak of a
unique moment, a distinct place, a particular person;
the shape of an artist?s inspiration.

An inveterate traveler, Kyle has lived and worked in
Nimes, San Francisco, Rhode Island, Boston, and Beirut
since graduating from the Massachusetts College of Art
(BFA) in 2002.

CHRISTIANA CARO documents the forgotten corners of
repossessed houses. What the inhabitants leave behind,
she isolates and opens to our curious gaze. Simple and
sparse, her compositions highlight the ?makeshift
repairs, indiscriminate objects, and territorial
declarations? inscribed in each site.

Since graduating from the Massachusetts College of Art
in 2002 with a BFA, Christiana has been living and
working in Providence, Rhode Island. She plans to
continue her work with repossessed properties all over
the United States.

JESSE DEE, a Boston-based singer-songwriter, brings
his raw, dynamic voice and a commanding stage presence
to xanadu*. Playing primarily soul/R&B/blues, his
influences include Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, and Bill
Withers.

XANADU*, an un-gallery and an artist-run space, is a
collective effort dedicated to supporting artists who
wish to work outside the mainstream art ?market?.
Established in the beautiful West Village, this
gallery has put down its New York roots and branched
out to Beirut, Lebanon.
