Bios:

Dan Langholtz, LCSW, RSC, CDI

Dan has been a long time San Francisco resident, a recovering New Yorker. Dan works as a licensed clinical social worker in an outpatient mental health service and school programs for the Deaf. Since 1976, Dan has lectured and authored about HIV+ & AIDS, Deaf-Hearing Cultural Issues; Mental Health, Deaf Interpreting and Working Ethics. He is intensively Involved in the world of interpreting in various capacities, including the development of the NAD/RID's Code of Professional Conduct for interpreters and RID's Ethical Practices System. When time permits, Dan, Certified Deaf Interpreter, provides relay interpreting services in Northern California. In his spare time, he enjoys biking, swimming, good books and meals.

Priscilla Moyers

Priscilla Poynor Moyers grew up in a Deaf family and graduated from the California School for the Deaf at Fremont. She attended CSUN and. Gallaudet University before receiving a B.A. in English literature with a minor in English as a Second Language from San Francisco State University. She has worked as a research assistant with the ASL Literacy Research Project and interpreted for Deaf persons and in medical and mental health settings. For more than 15 years she has taught ASL privately and in the classroom, from CSUN to Vista College. After completing an intensive program in legal interpreting in 1993, she began freelancing in the courts, enhancing access to the judicial system for Deaf clients. Now a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), she continues to serve as a legal intermediary interpreter and gives workshops on interpreting, language and cultural issues, and how to become a CDI.

Steve Walker

Steve has worked in the field of interpreting for over 15 years. His experience includes deaf-blind, international IS, and relay hearing-deaf team interpreting, in a variety of settings, including educational, conference, legal, and performing arts. As an instructor, Steve has provided training and facilitated workshops in the areas of interpreting CDI, Deaf-Blind, International Sign, Team Process, Ethics, cross-cultural communication and dynamics, leadership development, and parenting deaf and hearing children. Steve currently works as a staff interpreter at Gallaudet University and resides with his wife and 3 children in Germantown, MD.

Carolyn Ressler, MA, CI & CT

Carolyn had over 10 years of interpreting experience before joining Gallaudet Interpreting Services at Gallaudet University in 1994 as a staff interpreter. She has interpreted at both national and international conferences and for teleconferences broadcast across the nation and abroad. Carolyn has been RID certified (CI/CT) since 1989. She received a bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpreting/Technical Education from The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, and a Masters of Arts degree in Intercultural Communication at Howard University in Washington, D. C. Her interest in and research on Deaf/hearing interpreting teams comes from years of hands-on work as a "feed/intermediary" interpreter at national and international conferences.

Sharon Neumann Solow, M.A., CSC, SC:L

Sharon Neumann Solow works as an interpreter, interpreter coordinator, performer, lecturer and consultant. Her career has taken her around the United States, and to Canada, Mexico, Europe, Scandinavia, New Zealand and Australia. She is the author of two books, Sign Language Interpreting: A Basic Resource Book (newly revised!) and Say It With Sign, along with a number of professional articles and handbooks. Her television appearances include talk shows, variety shows and documentaries and she co-stars with her husband, Larry Solow, on the Emmy award-nominated NBC Knowledge series, "Say It With Sign" which still airs throughout the United States. As the female lead in "The Electric Sign Company", she and Gary Sanderson have delighted audiences for over three decades. She is a working interpreter, mostly in legal and conference settings, with a long history of classroom interpreting and educational interpreter training and administration. In court work she specializes in work with deaf people with minimal language skills. Her travels and some of her conference work have involved the use of international gesture (a gestural, pantomimic form of communication across language barriers) interpreting. She has been involved in the education of spoken language interpreters and interpreter educators through the Monterey Institute of International Studies. Sharon is an active member of the RID (Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf) and CIT (Conference of Interpreter Trainers), holding the Specialist Certificate: Legal as well as NAD's SIGN (Sign Language instructor) Comprehensive Permanent Certificate. The 1987 recipient of the national Virginia Hughes Award for outstanding contributions to the field of sign language interpreting, Sharon has lived on the Monterey Peninsula since 1984. She and her husband have two wonderful children, Megan age 25 and Jered age 22.
