This is your chance to explore Rhode Island's top winter birding locations. Tremendous concentrations of waterfowl and passerines congregate on and around the ponds, rivers, and bays that rarely freeze. On Saturday, we will focus on areas north of Newport, including James Turner Reservoir, Watchamoket Cove, Colt State Park, Tiverton's fields and marshes, Sisson Pond and Sachuest Point. If time and energy permit in the evening, we'll visit the Norman Bird Sanctuary for woodcock displays and owling. The following day, we will explore several areas in Jamestown including Beavertail State Park, then move on to Point Judith, Matunuck, Trustom Pond National Wildlife Refuge, and Ninigret State Park. Our final two day tally should be 100 species and include 20 species of ducks, several raptors, early spring migrants, and a variety of unusual species like Eurasion Widgeon, Short-eared Owl, Tufted Duck, Yellow-breasted Chat and the occasional vagrants like Pink-footed Goose, and Golden Eagle. - - We maintain a low participant-leader ratio for all of our overnight programs. As a result, our guests have an easier time finding and seeing wildlife, and leaders have more time for individualized interactions with each participant. These programs are open to everyone age 18 and older. Fees include all ground and boat transportation, interpretive materials, entrance fees, and lodging unless otherwise noted. Fees are based on double occupancy; optional single rooms available for a supplemental fee except where noted. To receive an itinerary, please call: 781-259-2206 or email jriley@massaudubon.org. Registration is required. Call 781-259-2200 for details. See http://www.massaudubon.org/catalog/listing.php?program_code=241-DFP11WI1 for more information.
