Scott Worthington is currently a member of the Applied Music (Classical Performance) department at the Eastman School of Music. His principal teacher at Eastman is James VanDemark.

He is heavily involved in contemporary music, performing often with Ossia New Music (of which he is currently a board member) and Eastman’s Musica Nova, as well as participating in the Lucerne Festival Academy. In addition, Scott frequently commissions new works for solo bass and solo bass with electronics.

As a composer Scott has had works played around the US. Many of his pieces for big band have been either performed or premiered by the Saddleback College Big Band, in CA. At Eastman, his works have been recorded and Ossia presented the world premier of his piece Tautology. He has had composition instruction from Joey Sellers, and Dr. Robert Morris.

Scott is also an accomplished jazz bass player and has participated in the Jazz and Contemporary Media department at Eastman. He has performed in two international tours with the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra performing at the Kutchan and Noto Jazz Festivals in Japan, Sweet Rhythm and Dizzy’s Club in Manhattan, and on the main stage of the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada as well as the Monterey Jazz Festival in California.

Scott has been fortunate enough to perform and/or work with artists such as Pierre Boulez, Regina Carter, Peter Eötvös, Frank Foster, Branford Marsalis, James Moody, Todd Reynolds, and Juan Trigos.

The program will feature new works by Andrew Allen, Matt Barber, Paul Coleman, Scott Petersen, Steven Rice, and myself, all of which will be world premiers except for Matt’s piece.
