SYNOPSIS
In a time where 31 states have passed English Only initiatives, one urban school districtis exploring the provocative notion that speaking a foreign language can be a national asset. We follow four diverse students and their families as they encounter thechallenges and delights of becoming fluent in two languages. As we witness theirjourney, we see how speaking more than one language changes them, their families,their communities, and maybe even the world.
FESTIVAL HISTORY
"Speaking in Tongues " held its World Premiere in its hometown at the 2009 San Francisco International Film Festival, where it was won the Audience Award. After CalDocFest, the film is slated to play at the United Nations Assication Film Festival in Palo Alto, the San Diego Asian-American Film Festival, among others.
