The Mountain Home Symphony will present their annual June concert Spring Fling! An American Experience! on Sunday June 6th at 2:30PM in the Dunbar auditorium at Mountain Home High school. Donations of six dollars for adults will be accepted at the door. There is no charge for children 12 and under.
The Mountain Home Symphony is in its 19th season, and involves about 45 volunteer musicians from Northern Arkansas and Southern Missouri. Donations from patrons and advertisers are used for music purchases, student scholarships, and stipends for area college students who play instruments not played by any of the orchestra members.
“As usual, there will be something for everyone at the concert,” said conductor Barbara Deegan. “We will feature three Mountain Home trumpet players, Mark Hopper, Michael Xiques, and David Fornez in Leroy Anderson’s Bugler’s Holiday. The orchestra will also play John Henry by Aaron Copland, Washington Post March by John Phillip Sousa, and a host of other pieces that will have a familiar sound to many of our listeners.” In addition, the orchestra will feature several young violin students in a pre-concert performance as well as together with the orchestra in a selection called Fantasy on America by Vaclav Nehlybel. This is an arrangement of America the Beautiful, and will feature students of orchestra members Dawn Cantwell, Michelle Rogers, and Dani Collins of Mountain Home and Barbara Deegan of Ava, Missouri.
The orchestra is always looking for new members and for people to help with publicity and program ad sales. If you think you would like to be involved as a musician or helper, please contact board president Mark Hopper at 870-492-4098 or Conductor Barbara Deegan at 417-543-5696
