The Friends of Milwaukee Public Library will welcome Sue Miller to speak at this year’s Spring Literary Luncheon. Sue Miller, author of popular novels such as The Senator’s Wife, Inventing the Abbotts, Family Pictures, The Good Mother, and Oprah pick While I Was Gone will read from her newest book, The Lake Shore Limited on Wednesday, April 28 at the Wisconsin Club, 900 W. Wisconsin Avenue. Book sales, a book signing and raffle will begin at 11 a.m. followed by lunch, the program and the Friends of MPL annual meeting. Proceeds benefit the Milwaukee Public Library.

In Miller’s latest novel, Wilhelmina (Billy) Gertz writes a play, The Lake Shore Limited, about the terrorist bombing of that train—and about a man waiting to hear the fate of his estranged wife who is traveling on it. How Billy comes to write the play out of her own painful conflicts and ambivalence, how it is then created anew by the actors and the director, how the performance itself touches and changes the other characters’ lives—these form the vital core of a story that drives the novel compulsively forward.
