All the ladies who are "anybody" in Chinquapin, Louisiana have their hair done at Truvy's beauty salon. Helped by her new assistant, Annelle (who is not sure whether or not she is still married), the wise-cracking Truvy dispenses shampoo and advice to the town's rich curmudgeon, Ouiser; Miss Clairee, who has a raging sweet tooth; and the local social leader, M'Lynn, whose daughter, Shelby (the prettiest in town), is about to marry a "good ole boy." This popular play, with its eccentric characters and gossipy dialogue, is hilarious and touching-- and in the end, deeply moving.
