Join cultural practitioners Manu Josiah and Leilehua Yuen in their much loved annual Maunakea presentation, “Stories of the Winter Stars.”
Learn why Makali`i shines through winter nights, why `Iwakeli`i flies north in the winter, and why Pulelehua flew to the sky,as well as other stories of the winter stars in a program that blends science, story, song, and chant to share their love of the Hawaiian night sky.
After the program, Manu and Leilehua will go to the Visitor Information Station to point out Hawaiian constellations and sign their CDs, available at the First Light gift shop at the VIS.
Each month, a different Cultural Practitioner shares perspectives on an aspect of Hawaiian culture, history, and or arts relating to the natural history of Maunakea. The “Malalo o ka Po Lani” cultural program is held on the third Saturday of every month in the Ellison Onizuka Center for International Astronomy Visitor Information Station’s presentation room at the 9,300 ft eleveation on Mauna Kea.
