The Body of Mask: Advance Training Program into the Essence of Theater Masks.

Two week intensive exclusively designed for theater teachers and directors.

The landscape of theater is shifting. Students of theater are more and more interested in becoming theater creators of their own work. We can say that a new generation of performing artists is forming.

This two-week intensive has been designed to provide theater teachers and directors with new tools and approaches that will impact, facilitate and support the "journey of artistic exploration" of their students/actors.

This hands-on program allows participants to explore fundamental approaches to specific types of theatre masks: Neutral Mask, Larval Mask, Primary Mask, the half masks of the Human Comedy and Commedia dell'Arte.

Improvisation, together with Technique and Analysis of Movement, are the main tracks on which the teaching evolves. In addition, participants will be designing and sculpting a theatrical papier-mache half-mask of their own creation. Course work will also include immersion in the study of theater mask history.

APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MAY 15TH, 2010.

Please note that the number of students is limited to 15. The workshop will be taught in English and held in Venice, Italy.

The Pedagogical Director, Paola Coletto, is a graduate of the Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq in Paris where she studied a physical approach to theatre and is one of 40 students in the school's 50 year history to have been certified as a pedagogical specialist under Lecoq's direction.
