Subcircle - Somewhere Close to Now and Here February 6, 2009

Niki and Jorge Cousineau continue their exploration of the unseen dances just below the surface of our everyday world with a duo of works HERE and Somewhere Close to Now. Hailed “a dance-video tour de force” (Philadelphia Inquirer) at its premiere in 2005, SCTN depicts a woman who has found a way to dissect time - finding herself in worlds where time behaves quite differently. Leaping in and out of video, this character’s expeditions spawned Subcircle’s dance film, HERE (2008), which was created as a companion piece to the solo. Joined by writer Makoto Hirano, dramaturge Andrew Simonet, and performers from Philadelphia and Berlin, Subcircle’s dance film, HERE exposes the choreography that moves inside our daily mundane actions.
