Set in unoccupied Africa during World War II, Casablanca focuses on a man torn between love and virtue. He must choose between his love for a woman and helping her and her Resistance-leader husband escape from the Vichy-controlled Moroccan city to continue his fight against the Nazis.
This legendary film, which premiered in 1942, was initially not considered a spectacular box-office success but received critical praise. It won Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay at the 16th annual Academy Awards in 1944.
