Susan Werner at the Blue Moon Coffeehouse January 10, 2009

Folk music singer and guitarist Susan Werner returns to the Blue Moon Coffeehouse stage on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 8 p.m. in the Young Main Lounge of the Memorial Center (104 E. University St., Bloomington). Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and coffee and light pastries will be available for purchase.

Tickets for the public are $10 and are currently available at The Garlic Press (108 W. North St., Normal), through the telephone request line at (309) 556-3815 and at the venue on the night of the show.

In her thirteenth visit to Blue Moon, Werner will feature songs from her new album, titled Classics. The album includes an array of songs from the late 1960s and 70s, arranged and interpreted by Werner. Although the album is not scheduled for release until February, Blue Moon attendees will have the opportunity to purchase it at the Coffeehouse.

Raised in rural Iowa, Werner studied classical voice at Temple University in Philadelphia. Inspired by the work of singer-songwriter Nanci Griffith, Werner began performing at coffeehouses throughout the Northeast. Werner, who now has seven albums under her belt, is credited by critics as an innovative and talented artist and an engaging performer. She has made guest appearances on National Public Radio’s Piano Jazz, Weekend Edition, and Pop Sessions.

Known to her fans as a witty and clever lyricist, Werner’s repertoire ranges from cabaret to blues to bluegrass. She has lauded praise from a variety of sources including The Washington Post, The Village Voice, and The New Yorker.
