Susanna Pozzoli. AFTER THE FUNERAL
Montrasio Arte via Brera 5 Milan

Opening Reception April 8th 2010 7 to 9 pm

The artist will be present together with writers Marco Mancassola, Marco Missiroli, Veronica Raimo,
Mattia Signorini, Chiara Zocchi

The exhibition, curated by Ruggero Montrasio, features Susanna Pozzoli’s photographic project After the Funeral and the related edition.
The show presents ten 30x30 cm photographs, together with texts expressly written for this occasion by five Italian writers: Marco Mancassola, Marco Missiroli, Veronica Raimo, Mattia Signorini, Chiara Zocchi.
Pozzoli’s project is constituted by a series of photographs and a written thought realized the day after the artist’s grandmother’s funeral, on January 2008.
The images on film want to reflect on a particular and sensitive moment, characterized by a strong sense of absence, silence and nostalgia. Then they became the starting point for a more universal consideration on the meaning of absence and death.
As the curator Ruggero Montrasio said: “…I immediately perceived that the project was naturally suitable for a literary interpretation. Following an old tradition of collaboration between artists and literati, we decided to involve five of the most promising young Italian writers. Therefore, they composed texts – novels, letters, poems and interviews - inspired by the artist’s photographs”.
Ruggero Montrasio conceived and coordinated the project that will be shown in a series of traveling exhibitions both in Italy and abroad, starting from the show and the Reading at Montrasio Arte in via Brera, Milan.
In fact, a Reading, with the five writeres involved, curated by Francesca Montrasio and Teresa Meucci, will take place during the show. Each author will read the two texts created for After the Funeral, confronting them with the images that inspired the writing. During this meeting, the link between photography and the writing, as well as the potential of the collaboration between a visual artist and a writer, will be discussed.
