The Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) in the United States will cheer for walkers in Washington, D.C.'s 2012 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer as they cross Northwest Washington on Sunday, May 6.
Each year, thousands of people whose lives have been affected by breast cancer join the D.C. Avon Walk to support efforts to combat breast cancer. This year, everybody is welcome to join in cheering at the TECRO Cheering Station, to applaud the walkers and keep their energy and spirits high as they complete their two-day, 39-mile trek across the District of Columbia.
TECRO’s station, in front of its office building, will feature an energetic Lion Dance troupe, peppy drumming and a special appearance by the San Tai Zi, or “the Third Prince,” a popular Taosit deity, who will help lead cheers. TECRO staff and guests will cheer, applaud and inspire the walkers, with peak-cheering between 10:00am and 11:15am. TECRO has set up a Cheering Station in three of the past four DC Avon Walks. TECRO was not on the route last year, but the diplomatic mission enthusiastically accepted an invitation to join in this year.
TECRO is the representative office of the Republic of China (Taiwan), which has been playing an active role in global health initiatives, including supporting breast cancer awareness in the local community. The office is located at 4201 Wisconsin Avenue, N.W.
