Terre Haute, Indiana

Calling all salsa chefs! Things are heating up at the Downtown Terre Haute Farmers Market and to celebrate, Terre Foods is sponsoring the first ever Salsa Contest on Aug. 22nd. In order to make this success a bang, we need contestants! Take a chance to show off your salsa skills and submit your favorite salsa for a chance to win some local goodies.

There will be three salsa categories; tomato-based raw, tomato-based cooked, and specialty, which may be raw or cooked. What sets specialty salsas aside is the use of non-traditional ingredients, such as fruit or leaving out tomatoes altogether.

Terre Foods will assemble a panel of local chefs and personalities to judge the winners in each category. In addition, market-goers will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite salsa by placing a donation in the jar next to their top choice. The salsa that earns the highest donations will be the “Tasters’ Choice” (all donations will go to Terre Foods). Winners will have the opportunity to have their prize-winning recipes on the Terre Foods’ website and distributed on the Terre Foods mailing list.

Each registered entry received before Aug. 20th is $5. Last minute registrations received after Aug. 20th are $10 each. Contestants may place more than one entry.

Salsas must be delivered to the Terre Foods booth at the Downtown Terre Haute Farmers Market on Aug. 22nd from 8-9am. A portion of your salsa will be set aside for judging and the rest is for the public to enjoy. Judging will take place at 11am.

To register, send in your registration form, along with payment ($5 per entry before Aug. 20th, $10 per entry after Aug. 20th) to Terre Foods, Salsa Contest, PO Box 3043, Terre Haute IN 47803 or hand it to a Terre Foods volunteer at the Terre Foods booth at the Downtown Terre Haute Farmers Market.

Please include your name, address, phone number, and desired salsa category. You do not need to submit a full recipe at the time of registration.

Contest Guidelines

Contestants are encouraged to submit between 1 to 2 quarts (4-8 cups) of salsa. This is not a requirement, but it will limit the chance of your salsa running out early, thus losing a shot at the Tasters’ Choice award!
Please deliver salsa in a sanitary container, clearly marked with your name, salsa, salsa category, and phone number. It is the contestants’ responsibility to collect his/her container at the end of the event.
Salsa entries must be delivered on Saturday, Aug. 22nd between 8-9am, to the Terre Foods booth at the Downtown Terre Haute Farmers Market. At that time, contestants may fill out a display card that includes; the salsa-maker’s name, the name of the salsa, and the degree of spiciness (mild, medium, hot, or extra-hot).
On a 3x5 card, please include all ingredients used in your salsa and clearly indicate any common allergens such as tree nuts, dairy, or soy. Terre Foods staff will not display these cards or give away any “secret ingredients,” but will have them on hand for individuals who suffer from allergies.
Contestants must be present in order to claim their prize.
Terre Foods reserves the right to combine categories if the number of submissions in a particular category is low.

Happy salsa-making!
