The Box contemporary art gallery proudly presents new works by artist Jophen Stein. This collection of narrative paintings will open at the Costa Mesa gallery on Saturday, October 17, 2009, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The exhibition will run through December 5, 2009.
The 5 Deadly Senses is the newest series from Jophen Stein. Using both humor and poignant intimacy, Stein narrates a story of exploration and progress through work inspired by Hollywood musicals and motifs reminiscent of early Romantic Comedies.
Jophen Stein is a graduate of the Laguna College of Art and Design. After establishing the Snootson Family Showcase in 2004 his distinctive style has gained national recognition over the past years. Despite the minor set backs of being banned from Idaho and Iowa. Jophen stein continues the SFSC series from his studio in Pomona.
The Snootson Family Showcase [SFSC] is a collection of narrative, historical, and character based art. While there are a variety of subjects and motifs presented in the SFSC, a principle underlining theme exists concerning the correlation between antiquity and modernity. With the help of literary devices such as irony and double entendres, the SFSC parodies contemporary social life with the eras and precedence that created it.
