Sourcing and securing energy supplies and meeting climate change targets continue to be a top priority for policy makers around the world, despite the economic challenges.
For the countries of South East Europe and the Mediterranean, the challenge is to put in place energy strategies which meet global sustainability objectives whilst reflecting local conditions and priorities.
This region is in a unique geographical position as gateway to Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. With the UN Copenhagen Climate Change Conference coming up in 2009, it therefore has a central role to play in demonstrating best practice in intergovernmental cooperation in guaranteeing energy supplies, as well as in local practice in delivering efficiencies, driving investments and facilitating the speedy transition to a regional low carbon economy.
Hosted by FT Global Events in association with the Institute for Climate and Energy Security and C&C International Group of Companies, the summit will bring together senior governmental officials, corporate leaders, financiers and experts to debate and discuss how the twin goals of energy security and managing climate change can be achieved to the benefit of all.
This is the second event of its kind with last year's conference attracting more than 800 attendees.
Please note that the official language of The Athens Summit 2009 is English, but simultaneous translation into Greek will be provided.
