Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, Short Cuts Cinema Classics screens The Color Purple (Steven Spielberg, 1985) in the Studio Theatre.
Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Color Purple relates the life of Celie (Whoopi Goldberg), a Southern black woman virtually sold into a life of servitude to her brutal husband, sharecropper Albert (Danny Glover). Celie pours her innermost thoughts into letters to her sister Nettie (Akousa Busia), unaware that Albert has been hiding Nettie's replies, leaving Celie to assume that her sister is dead.
A major box-office hit, The Color Purple was nominated for eleven Oscars.
