"THE SPURLOCK FAMILY"
You are sure to be captivated as you listen to the Spurlock’s beautiful family harmony, lively bluegrass and gospel music. The family started singing, publicly, back in 2004, being encouraged into the limelight by some friends and local pastors. With urging from a few neighbors, they cut their first CD in the fall of 2004. Audiences have honestly been amazed at the musical talents of the family...the oldest in the bunch, Daniel, will be joining the Renaissance bluegrass band at Bethel College this fall (on scholarship)... They now have plans to record their fifth CD project this June, as the children quickly outdate previous CD's by their musicianship improving almost daily!
They have appeared on local TV and radio networks across West & Middle Tennessee and in Northeast Mississippi over the past several years. Their primary audience are churches, but they do many festivals and other events throughout the year.
Being together as a family is special, and having all of the children blessed with talent in both playing and singing enables us to minister together in music to various audiences. It is an experience that will hopefully carry all of them through their future careers, even if they don't choose music for a profession. Mother Cindy says, “Touching hurting hearts and lives with the message of hope, the Gospel, is the best way I can think of to spend my time with my family.
People usually ask how I got the children to play the different instruments. Well, no, we didn't "assign" instruments to the children...we simply play bluegrass gospel because it happened to be the closest thing to define what our music sounds like. With banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, guitars and upright bass...along with two-to-four part harmony, singing "old time" gospel music...what ELSE would you call it??? We used to all sit around the family tape player and hear music by the Smoky Mountain Gospel over and over and over again...that might have had some influence on us. But we never set out to "pattern" ourselves after any one group...we are who we are, the Spurlock Family.”
The Spurlocks will perform Friday, February 27th, at the Commodore Café on 114 Main Street in Linden, from 6-9pm. For further information, room or dining reservations, please call 931-589-3224 or
