What?s in a name? You say Shiraz, I say Syrah, yet despite the confusion they are both the same grape. The story goes that when a wine loving cattleman from early 19th century Australia imported Syrah to his ranch in the Barossa, the customs officers couldn?t read his writing and re-wrote the scribbled Syrah as Shiraz. The name has remained in Australia ever since.

Since these humble beginnings Down Under the Shiraz grape has gone on to thrive in the warm local climate, and has become Australia?s highest profile wine. However this versatile grape is also now widely grown internationally with many exceptional wines being produced outside Australia. The question must be asked - does Australia continue to dominate Shiraz wines, or is it time to acknowledge a new world leader?

Ruby Red?s Shiraz / Syrah tasting pits some wonderful examples of the Aussie Shiraz against some fantastic gems from the rest of the world for the ultimate knockout event! Be seduced by a Syrah, or smitten with a Shiraz. Which country do you prefer? Try them all and judge for yourself.
