Short Cuts Cinema screens The Guard (Michael McDonagh, 2011) on Wednesday 28th March at 7.30pm in the Studio Theatre.
In this Irish black comedy, Sergeant Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson, Gangs of New York) is a small-town Irish cop with a confrontational personality, a subversive sense of humour, a dying mother, a fondness for prostitutes, and absolutely no interest whatsoever in the international cocaine-smuggling ring that has brought straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle, Hotel Rwanda) to his door. A murder which appears to be the work of an occult serial killer reveals a web of bribery and blackmail and killings ensue. Boyle and Everett form an unlikely alliance and with the unwitting help of the IRA bring about a bloody denouement.
