Soprano Jessica Gould and Mezzo-soprano Jennifer Lane perform selections from Barbara Strozzi's only collection of sacred works "I Sacri Musicali Affetti' (Opus 8, 1655, Venice). The collection, commissioned by a female patron, sets a large number of medieval Latin poems dedicated to female saints. Also on the program is the recently discovered Lenten duet, "Canto Divoti Affetti" by Giovanni Alberto Ristori (1692-1753). The piece, which miraculously survived the Allied bombing of Dresden, makes its New York debut in this concert.
Joining the singers are Grant Herreid, lute, John-Mark Rozendaal, cello and Borys Medicky, harpsichord.
Tickets are $15/$12 Students, seniors, members of early music organizations. Reservations are not required.
