The Rainmaker by Richard Nash April 9th May 9th, 2010 on the Aurora Fox Mainstage H.C. Curry (Tupper Cullum) finds himself desperate for rain and a suitor for his daughter, Lizzie (Karen Slack), a discouraged wallflower resigned to a spinsterly future. When a slick salesman (Paul Borrillo) comes a-callin with the promise of rain (for the low, low price of $100), the despondent rancher dips into his rainy day fund and orders up a storm. Soon the Curry family is duped into performing a ridiculous assortment of rainmaking rituals to help the con man conjure a cloudburst while plain Lizzie looks on, convinced that Starbuck is nothing more than a swindler with a knack for spinning romantic tales. But she succumbs to his charms when he showers her with a sincere compliment and a warm, honest kiss. In the reflection of his eyes, she discovers her own beauty, and ultimately, her belief in him transcends his boastful pretense and brings the rain.
