The Ryder Cup, a competition which began in 1927, is among the last great professional sporting events where winning, and not prize money, is the main attraction. It pits a team of golf professionals from the U.S. against a team of some of the finest players in all of Europe. The Ryder Cup is held every other year, with the U.S. and Europe alternating as host.
