Winner of The Magic Circle Comedy Award Ian Keable performs the favourite tricks of Charles Dickens and recreates some of the spooky practises of the Victorian psychics.

Charles Dickens, who, in addition to being one of the world’s greatest writers, was also an expert conjurer and had a sceptical fascination in spiritualism.

This humorous and mystifying show recreates, in the authentic parlour room atmosphere of the 16th century Lauderdale House, how Dickens deceived his audiences and why, to quote a famous contemporary, Elizabeth Browning, he was “fond of Ghost stories so long as they were impossible.”

Ian Keable premiered The Secret World of Charles Dickens at the Charles Dickens Museum in London in 2012, the bicentennial of Dickens's birth.

Ian appeared on the Alan Titchmarsh Show in the same year, bamboozling fashion guru Gok Wan with an ‘Artful Dodger’ vanish of his watch. Check out http://www.charlesdickensmysteryshow.co.uk/video.html for this footage.

Time Out has described Ian as a “charismatic magician”. As well as winning their prestigious Comedy Award, he is also a Member of The Inner Magic Circle. He has written several books on magic, including the definitive work on Stand-Up Comedy Magic, and has presented a programme about mind readers on Radio 4 called Men of Mystery.
