The UnsCene: UnConventional Art and Culture in Orange County January 16, 2010

The Box contemporary art gallery presents new work by Orange County artists, Anna Judd, Travis Raymond, Jason Rutherford, Jaime Sandoval, Kathie Warren, and Nathan Warren. This collection of artwork will open at the Costa Mesa gallery on Saturday, January 16, 2010, from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The exhibition will run through March 5, 2010.

The UnsCene: UnConventional Art and Culture in Orange County is The Box gallery’s response and complement to the Laguna Art Museum’s OsCene. Posited as an alternative exhibition that features six emergent and mid-career artists, the show highlights the artistic culture prevalent in Orange County, California. Oils, acrylics, mixed media, collage, and ceramics all come together to create a visually stunning yet artistically disparate exhibition.

For The UnsCene, The Box gallery opens its doors to provide an unconventional art space to showcase fresh work to a new viewing public. “This is our first show of its kind at The Box”, says curator Johnny Sampson, “I am honored to have the opportunity to share these artists with a public which may not have afforded the occasion elsewhere. Each of these artists is amazing, but when exhibited together, the show reveals many common themes and movements that affect and have been inspired by our current culture”.
