?The Vagina Monologues? is one of the most successful and well-known modern plays, created in the documentary genre. It was staged in 53 countries around the world and translated in more than 30 languages. From the theatre production ?The Vagina Monologues? has developed into cultural phenomenon and social movement.
In 1996 ?The Vagina Monologues? playwright, Eve Ensler, first performed her new play herself in one of New York theatres.
In June 2005 Russian public had the first chance to see the official Russian production of the play, staged in Moscow and to become the part of worldwide V-movement ? movement of the play?s admirers. Few performances, which came afterwards, have evoked much response from the audience, journalists and critics, gaining praise as well as reaction of misunderstanding.
Russian production is being presented owing to the translation of Vasiliy Arkanov, NTV reporter in USA; producing and direction of Joel Lehtonen ? graduate of Russian Theatre Academy, who is already well-known to Moscow audience for his skillful and delicate work with contemporary drama; bright acting of Vera Voronkova, Anna Galinova, Ekaterina Konisevich ? young and charismatic Russian actresses.
