THE WOMEN’S FUND OF CNY TO RECOGNIZE WOMEN EDUCATORS
“Celebrating Women Educators in Leadership – Presentation of the 2009 Grant Awards”

On Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at 5:30 p.m. a cocktail reception will be held at the Bellevue Country Club in Syracuse, NY, to recognize seven Central New York leaders in education who have inspired women throughout the region. The event will begin with opening remarks from Joanie Mahoney, Onondaga County Executive.

The seven prestigious women being recognized are: Hannah Arterian, Dean and Professor of Law, College of Law, Syracuse University; Dr. Julie Grossman, Acting Dean, Arts and Sciences, Professor of English, Lemoyne College; Lisa Marsh Ryerson, President, Wells College; Susan Schilling, Dean of Instruction, Bryant and Stratton College; Dr. Deborah Stanley, President, SUNY Oswego State University of New York; Jane Suddaby, Assistant Superintendent of Instructional Support Services and Strategic Planning, Oswego County BOCES; and Dr. Debbie Sydow, President, Onondaga Community College. They will offer their insights about the impact of education on the lives of women and girls in our community and will also be presenting the Central New York Women’s Fund 2009 Grant Awards.

The mission of the Women’s Fund of Central New York is to support, empower, and recognize the advancement and full participation of women and girls in Central New York through a permanent endowment fund.

Today, over 500 women and girls have been the recipients of a variety of grants given by the Women’s Fund that have enabled them to develop leadership skills, independence and self-sufficiency. Chair Sara Wason describes The Fund’s central focus on Education for the next three years: “The Women’s Fund recognizes that one of the best investments we can make in our communities is educating women and girls. The more education girls and women obtain, the more likely they will be economically secure and prosper, as well as their families. It also helps to address the root causes of a whole host of other issues experienced by women.”

To join in acknowledging these seven inspiring women and congratulating our 2009 grant recipients, tickets can be purchased for $50.00 or 6 tickets for $250.00.
